Hurricane Shutters
Choosing The Right Hurricane Shutter
If you live in an area where you are more at risk for a hurricane, or even if you'd like to insure that if a hurricane hit that you'd be protected, then you're going to need a strong hurricane shutter. There are many choices out there and many of today's shutters will insure that you get the most for your money. When considering shutters it is important to know if you would like to have removable or affixed shutters. Each of these offer their own benefits and it's important to consider them both.
Homeowners who do not want to keep shutters attached to their house year round usually prefer a hurricane shutter that can be removed. Many of these systems include a rail that is attached to the top and bottom of the window in which the shutter is slipped into and bolted into position. These shutters are primarily made of aluminum or steel material, which makes them an ideal hurricane shutter option. When the shutters are not in use, the insert is simply stacked in a storage area. If storage is an issue, then the removable hurricane shutter is probably not your best option. It might be worth mentioning that some people find it almost impossible to lift the heavy inserts without assistance.
If a more permanent route is preferred then maybe an affixed hurricane shutter is what you desire. An affixed shutter gives you the assurance that no shutter will be misplaced in the event of a storm. You also have the advantage of style. Affixed shutters are going to be displayed on your home for as long as you own it, or replace them. For this reason hurricane shutter manufacturers have come up with a wide array of styles that are both unique and practical. As well as protecting your home against the elements, some affixed shutters come with a lock and key which can be used as a theft deterrent. One person can easily shut and lock this style of shutter since they are hinged to the house.
Each shutter system offers its own advantages over the next. It is important to find the right system that will both be cost efficient and offer ease of use. While a removable shutter may be perfect for someone living next door, it might not be right for you.
